2008 CZ Extreme Euro Open

I'm just gonna go ahead and say it... it was the best match I've ever attended. 30 stages, 550 rounds over 3 days. Each day 10 stages in a half-day format (!) shooting on small squads at a very efficient pace. Even though this match was IPSC sanctioned, it didn't follow the typical 3-2-1 format (3 speedshoots, 2 medium courses, 1 long course) that we are used to seeing. And that I may add, find rather boring. Every stage was very challenging, interesting and fun to shoot. If you want to experience a great country and shoot a match at the same time, this is the one. Book your tickets and make plans for next year.

Steinar Haugli from Norway, reaching over the tires to hit the target

See how little my gun recoils?

I was sporting my new IonBond'ed Limited 40
that was custom-lightened and tricked out with
all kinds of goodies.

Our boy.. the monkey man Cliff Walsh

Cliff took 2nd in revolver with his tricked out
S&W 625 .45ACP

Eric, in his usual winning style

Frank Sparby looks like he's on the clock

Barry Pollock

Range Master and long time friend from England
made all the important calls. I met Barry at the
American Handgunner in Montrose, Colorado
in 1994. Crazy old bastard.

Cliff Walsh and Steinar Haugli

Steinar won the first national
Norwegian Revolver Championshis in 2006.
Glad they enjoy it... I like semi-autos...

Eric Grauffel walking off the stage

Note the second mag with one of my extension pads
that allows 24 rounds in 38 super. Eric sells
my Firing pins, the H-520 and H-141 pads on his
website.

Richard Solberg

The stages were many and varied with very
few speed shoots, mostly medium or long courses.
The few speed shoots they did have were very good.

Shooters from all over the world showed up

Steinar, Frank, Cliff and myself drove from Norway,
through Sweden and Germany to get to
Czech Republic. We stayed for another week
to enjoy this wonderful country.

The Beer and Food Tent

Believe it or not, but they served beer on the range.
But only after you were done shooting.
After the match we traveled to our favorite city,
Cesky Krumlov where we lounged for a week.

Sporting the "Prescription Shirt" on a speed shoot

I don't know if you caught it, but the target I was
shooting at on the top picture was low which is why
the recoil looked slightly better than reality... ha

btw. Watch for David Thompson's upcoming article
from this match in Front Sight Magazine.
